Visiting the pharmacist
Do I need an appointment?
No. Walk in any time we're open. Booking ahead means we're ready for you when you arrive.
What should I bring?
Your Alberta health card, your drug plan card if you have one, and a list of the medications you take (or the bottles).
Does it cost anything to see the pharmacist?
Most assessments are covered by Alberta Health when you show your Alberta health card. A travel health consult is $50. Medications are billed to your drug plan as usual.
What can't a pharmacist treat?
Anything that needs a physical exam we can't do, imaging or urgent care. If your problem is outside what we can safely treat, we'll tell you where to go. In an emergency, call 911.
Will my family doctor know?
Yes. When we prescribe or change a medication, we send your family doctor a note.
Where are you, and where do I park?
Unit 113, 8720 Franklin Avenue. We're between Fort McMurray Vehicle Licensing & Registry and Taste of the Orient restaurant. There is plenty of parking right out front, and our entrance is wheelchair accessible.
Do you speak languages other than English?
Yes. Between us, our team speaks English, Twi, Hindi, Gujarati, Yoruba, Igbo, Amharic and Tigrinya. If you'd like help in your language, call ahead so we can make sure the right team member is in.
Are you open on holidays?
We're closed on Alberta's general holidays, plus Easter Monday, Heritage Day, the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Boxing Day. See the dates on our Contact page.
Prescriptions
Do you bill my insurance?
Yes. We bill Alberta Blue Cross and most insurance plans directly, so you don't have to send in receipts yourself. Bring your drug plan card the first time you fill a prescription with us. Not sure about your plan? Call us and we'll check.
Can you renew my prescription?
Often, yes. If it's a medication you've been taking and it's safe to continue, our pharmacist can renew it so you don't miss a dose.
How do I transfer my prescriptions to you?
Tell us the name of your current pharmacy. We'll contact them and move everything over. You don't need to call them yourself.
Do you offer blister packs?
Yes, at no extra cost. Your medications are sorted by day and time so nothing gets missed.
Delivery
Is there a delivery fee?
No. We deliver prescriptions anywhere in Fort McMurray at no charge.
How do I pay for a delivery?
Pay the driver at the door by debit or credit card, or send an e-transfer to the pharmacy. We'll give you the details when we arrange the delivery.
Does someone need to be home?
Yes. Prescriptions are signed for at the door, so they reach the right person. We'll text you when the driver is on the way.
Vaccines
Who can get a flu shot here?
Anyone 5 years and older. The flu shot is publicly funded for Albertans.
Do I need to book a vaccine?
You can walk in, but booking helps us make sure the vaccine you need is ready, especially for travel vaccines.
